A Thought for Today

In anticipation of our work on our church grounds this Sunday, and in reflection upon the hard work and gracious gifts that were poured into, and harvested from, our church garden, I remembered Julian of Norwich’s beautiful poem. I share it with you this day, in gratitude for the rich fruits of our labors together.

Be a gardener.
Dig a ditch, toil and sweat,
and turn the Earth upside down and seek the deepness
and water the plants in time.
Continue this labor
and make sweet floods to run
and noble and abundant fruits to spring.
Take this food and drink
and carry it to God
as your true worship.

May we share extravagant welcome and the bounty of our blessings.

  1. Simple but deep soul expressed on those lines.

  2. A beautiful expression of gardening…how it feeds the soul and the tummy. Thank you for sharing

  3. . . . and if you don’t have the capacity to garden, please purchase your produce, honey, etc., from local farmers as much as possible.
