Author Isabel Allende, and an Important Teach-In at 7pm Dec 3 at ASU
Acclaimed author Isabel Allende herself has recently written a compelling letter to the North Carolina School Board upon learning her award-winning novel The House of Spirits may potentially be banned from Watauga High School. The local High Country Press has a series of articles about this matter, as well as an announcement about the upcoming Teach-In. It will be free and open to the public.
The Teach-In will explore the literary value of Allende’s novel as well as the vital importance of book freedom. North Carolina Poet Laureate and ASU Professor of English (and member of HCUCC!) will be hosting the event. Additional speakers will include other ASU faculty as well as Watauga High School students and parents. There will be an open-mic portion as well for the general community.
