More About the Sept 21 International Peace Day

According to the United Nations, this year’s theme is “Education for Peace”, so getting children involved is especially key this year. One great way locally is to join the Peace Day¬†arts and crafts event and peace parade at the Turchin Center on September 21, 2013. The UN reminds us education needs to go beyond literacy and math to cultivate mutual respect for others and the world in which we live, and help people forge more just, inclusive and peaceful societies, and foster global citizenship.

Do you have some ideas for practical acts of peace beyond what is already planned here in Boone? Let us know! And remember: anyone anywhere can celebrate Peace Day with actions small or extensive, individually or collectively.

The United Nations established the International Day of Peace in 1981 and has excellent resources. Also check out the website for “International Day of Peace” for additional info.
