Our options and choices

Call to Action

In this powerful sermon Shelly uses the story of Bartimaeus to get us to think about life options and choices.  In Jesus’ time the crowd dehumanizes Bartimaeus because he is a blind man and like so many of the disenfranchised today is shushed and kept down.  But Bartimaeus refuses to be quiet and when given the power of sight by Jesus, joins with him to go to Jerusalem where the powers persecute and crucify the people who threaten the status quo.  Shelly shows us the similarities in our world today where media blitzes and worship of American idols are conditioning us to be blind to the opportunities around us…unless we shake ourselves awake.  This is a sermon that is a call to action and will appeal to the UCC spirit in you.
