Creating a Watauga County Branch of the NC NAACP
*UPDATE: A follow-up meeting will he held on Nov 2, again with NAACP officials, this time at 3pm at St Luke’s.*
This Saturday Sept 21st is packed with worthy activities and here is another one. Scheduled to allow participation in the Peace Parade, two officials from the North Carolina NAACP are traveling to Boone to help us with creation of a new NAACP Branch here in Watauga County. One of these folks is Jerry McCombs (the President of the Catawba County Branch) who spoke during the Taking the Dream Home to Boone Rally, and the other is the Laurel Ashton, the (Raleigh) Field Secretary for the NC NAACP. We will meet this Sat Sept 21st at 4:15pm at Boone UU Fellowship.
The NC NAACP has done a particularly powerful job this summer helping diverse folk collectively advocate for political, social, racial, educational, economic, and environmental justice in our state through Moral Monday / Forward Together Movement. Energy was high during the Boone Rally, and this is a way to help keep the momentum for change alive and well while forming new connections with people with similar values.
In addition to this meeting Saturday, as you may be aware there has been an informal group* gathering on Monday evenings outside the Jones House, inspired by the NC NAACP Moral Mondays / Forward Together Movement. That group* coordinated this meeting, and created a new Facebook page called “Forward Together – Watauga County” with additional information.
If you have questions, please let me know. I plan to attend this meeting Saturday (and the Peace Parade), and would love the company of other HCUCCers. Please feel free to invite other friends as well.
