Our First Peace Village

On August 1, Monday morning at 8:30, we welcomed about 12 children ranging in age from 8-11 at the Valle Crucis Conference Center to begin the week together.

Peace Village is a multifaith, 9-2, 5 day, collaborative Day Camp endeavor to demonstrate unity and peace among diverse faith groups within our community among our children. We chose the Valle Crucis Conference Center to have a feeling of a new place "out in the country," the easy access to creeks, waterfalls, and its support of this new endeavor. Adult leadership came from the Bahai, Boone Unitarian Universalist, Boone UMC, The Jewish Temple of the High Country and our own HCUCC community.

This first year was an experiment and also a huge success—bringing together kids to practice yoga, hike and be outside together, learn about different faiths and communities, and practice peace making.

HCUCC is grateful to all the volunteers and supporters of Peace Village 2022 and we can’t wait to see what next year holds!
